In order to match the feel of hipfire with the zoom FOV the sensitivity needs to be scaled proportionately with FOV. The "feel" of a particular sensitivity changes with FOV. I do not claim to have derived the following but I do agree with the concept behind it. This is my proof, please test this if you are able. The same process with 1.099 overshot by about four times the previous error. Based on my hunting from the 360 hipfire case, the error on 1.098 was similar to what I saw for 0.001/360. I tried 1.098 and landed very close after four passes with the script. With the 75% value, I should be able to run the script four times and end up exactly where I started. ![]() With these two values, I found the 75% vaule (1.09825) which would correspond to a linear transfer function just to confirm the previous measurements. This was repeatable to the pixel just like 360s from the hip. This was pretty close but I dialed it in with the same process (with two script passes). I tried exactly half this value and ran the script twice to find the 50% mark on the slider. Changing between 1.464 and 1.465 landed at equal distances on either side of the 360 point. You will notice that the slider only accepts three decimal values. The measured slider value (1.4645) represents an exact match to the unscoped 360 distance in terms of rotation per mouse travel. Using the script I adjusted the zoom sensitivity until I performed a 360 with the script while scoped. This was slow, but repeatable with sub-pixel accuracy. To confirm the estimate I loaded up a custom match on Awoken and aimed at the point on the stone face behind the map. I made a script to send enough mouse counts to rotate exactly 360 in hipfire. I did a little experiment that I'll detail for repeatability. I've been wanting to match the feel of hipfire with scoped shots for a while so the new zoom sensitivity slider was a welcome addition. The most interesting part about this finding imo is that at 140 FOV you cannot match 360 distance. Match is the zoom-ratio-adjusted slider value that should make tracking feel similar between hipfire and scoped. 100% is the slider value that will match 360 distance for a particular FOV. The Ratio column lists the zoom ratio between base and zoom FOV. Thank you for checking my math! These numbers should be much more useful: FOV Here are the updated measurements for various FOV settings. If you are interested in achieving a prescribed multiple of your hipfire sensitivity while zoomed though, check out the numbers at the end. ![]() If you have hundreds, or maybe even thousands of hours in QC and are used to the default zoom sens, please carry on, disregard this post. This typically causes the fuel economy to drastically reduce. When the VVT solenoid is malfunctioning, the entire system can be compromised, which may result in intake and exhaust valves opening and closing at the wrong time. The purpose of variable valve timing is to ensure that the valves open and close at the right time to maximize engine performance and reduce fuel consumption. If your engine idle is rough, make sure to have a certified mechanic inspect this as soon as possible. If not checked quickly, it can cause additional engine components to wear prematurely. This can cause the engine to idle rough, specifically the engine RPM to fluctuate as the system is activated. However, if the VVT solenoid is malfunctioning, it is possible that it will introduce additional engine oil to the VVT gears. Typically the VVT system does not activate until the engine is at higher RPM or is introduced to load bearing situations like driving uphill. Low oil levels can also cause problems with the VVT solenoid and other timing system components. To avoid this situation, make sure to have your engine oil changed as recommended by the vehicle manufacture. If your engine oil has not been changed out on schedule, it could damage the VVT solenoid, the VVT chain, and the gear drive. When the engine oil becomes clogged with debris, dirt or other foreign particles, it tends to clog up the passageway from the solenoid to the VVT chain and gear. The VVT solenoid works best when the engine oil is clean, free of debris, or has lost some of its lubricity or viscosity. This is more of a cause as opposed to a symptom. Once the mechanic has this initial information, they can begin to resolve the specific issue. In fact, there are literally dozens of individual codes for VVT solenoid issues for every automotive manufacturer. The most common light to illuminate when a VVT solenoid is failing is the Check Engine Light.ĭue to the fact that every automotive manufacturer has different codes they utilize, it's critical for a car owner to contact a local ASE Certified mechanic to inspect the car, download the code through the correct diagnostic tool and determine the precise source of the problem. Once the code has been generated, it will signal the driver by illuminating a specific zone warning. When one part is beginning to fail, the ECU will store a specific trouble code that will let a mechanic using a scan tool know that a problem exists. Since today's modern cars are controlled by an Engine Control Unit (ECU), virtually all individual components are monitored by the ECU. Here are a few symptoms of a worn out or broken VVT solenoid. In order to reduce the potential of these serious situations occurring, listed below are a few warning signs to be aware of that might indicate a problem with the VVT solenoid. There are several other problems that may occur when a VVT solenoid is wearing out or has broken that may extend to complete engine failure. If the VVT solenoid fails or is blocked, the lack of proper lubrication can cause the timing chain and gear to prematurely wear or break entirely. When the VVT solenoid activates, oil is sent to lubricate the variable valve timing chain and gear assembly. Some examples of this include while a vehicle is carrying additional weight, traveling up hills, or when acceleration is expedited through throttle control. This system typically activates when there is a significant load against the engine. Today, a VVT system can be found in virtually all production vehicles sold throughout the United States.Įach automotive manufacturer has their own unique VVT system, but most of them rely on a fully functional variable valve timing solenoid to control the flow of oil to the VVT system as it is engaged. One of the biggest breakthroughs was the development of variable valve timing (VVT), a new system that utilized advanced (for the time) electronic technology to apply variable electronic signals from the ignition system by way of a variable valve timing solenoid. With every new car produced, the "Big Three" learned more about engine performance and how to squeeze every ounce of horsepower out of their engines by manually adjusting valve lash and ignition timing. ![]() ![]() In the early to mid-1960's, American automotive giants Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors ruled the streets and drag strips across the land. ![]() ![]() ![]() So at this point I could just Close and leave Preview and I'm set. If I get information on the file here now it will be much smaller than it was before. It has been saving the changes this whole time as that is how Preview works. Let's zoom in a bit and we can see it is still a pretty decent quality but obviously it is going to be a much smaller file. So now you've got a much smaller image there. So you get the resulting size here and you can click OK. Again, that's probably not what you want to do. It is just going to change the resolution. Then you want to have Resample Image turned On otherwise you can't change the number of pixels. These checkboxes here, this one Scale proportionally maps to this same function. Having 300 pixels per inch or 72 pixels per inch doesn't really matter. Unless you're doing special print work a pixel is a pixel. In general you want to have these locked. Say if I want something to be 800 pixels wide it will automatically do the height to match the width and I can distort the image by changing one dimension but not the other. Now you could change this to pixels and then you could actually see the real pixels here. So if I wanted to say resize everything by 50% I can easily just type 50 there and it is going to resize everything and you'll see the resulting size here and the resulting file size as well. Now, by default it is going to be set to percent. You've got Fit Into and you can select a certain number of pixels. You just need to take the time to learn how this tool works. Now you get this pretty complex little dialogue box here and you could resize using this. So, you can go to Tools and then Adjust Size. Often when an image is too big it's because it is a high resolution image and you may not need a high resolution image in your current situation. The file is already going to be smaller if I Export it. You can always go to the Markup Tools here and then click on the selection tool to make sure that you get the selection rectangle there and then can go ahead and use Crop or just Command K. I'll just crop out some of the edges here. Figure out what part of the image you want. So when you're working with an image you should have a crosshair cursor here and you can just click and drag to where you want and then grab any of the edges or corners. What's happening here is you need to select something first. There is a crop tool but it is usually grayed out. After all if you want to get something to a smaller size the first thing they want to do is crop out unnecessary parts of the image. Now the first thing I may want to do is crop an image. It's going to open it up in Preview by default. ![]() So I'm going to double click on a JPEG image here in the Finder. You don't need a third party app for that. If you need to change an image by Cropping it, Resizing it, and then Exporting it in some different format you can do that all in the Preview Tool that comes with your Mac.
